8th June - 350th Commemoration Event

We are hosting an event on Museum Square on behalf of Medway Council to mark the 350th Anniversary of the Battle of Chatham/Dutch Raid (1667).  The event will also be the formal opening of ‘Breaking the Chain’ – our  summer temporary exhibition in No 1 Smithery – The Gallery.

Please note that the site will not be open to the public on this day and if you would like to join us for this event, you will need to book tickets to enter. This includes visitors that hold current annual tickets.

350th Commemorations Event at The Historic Dockyard Chatham

This Event will mark the formal start of ten days of Anglo-Dutch activities in Medway to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Dutch attack on Chatham in 1667. The event will be attended by invited guests and the public- from a ticketing system. (Ticket information will be available soon)

The core part of the event is a parade by a naval guard provided by a visiting Royal Navy Warship and two Marine bands – the Band of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth and the marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy.

The Historic Dockyard will NOT be open to normal visitors on this day.  For those that acquire tickets, the site will be open from 1pm and will close to the public at 4pm.

Parking is not available on site for this day and we encourage the use of public transport. Please see details below.  There will be limited parking available for disabled blue-badge holders which need to be pre-booked by emailing info@chdt.org.uk

Entry points – Main welcome entrance & Main Gate

Public Transport: 

  • Buses – 101,190,191,182 – these buses drop off by Main Gate.
  • Walking – Come through Main Gate
  • Blue Badge Holders – Please park in the main car park in the disabled spaces.
  • Trains- Chatham Station – there is a bus stop around the corner from the station

Security on the Day…

  • We take the safety and security of our visitors seriously. Please ensure you arrive in plenty of time to pass through our enhanced security checks on this day.
  • In addition to your ticket being checked, visitors maybe subjected to cursory bag searches. Large baggage will not be permitted on site.
  • This is our way of checking that nothing is coming into our venue that shouldn’t be and is for the benefit of our visitors to have an enjoyable time with us at this event.
  • Chatham Historic Dockyard security measures help prevent crime and promote public safety.

 

Medway in Flames

This event is being hosted by Medway Council.

Chatham Maritime comes alive with a programme of family entertainment including a fun fair, and food, drink and trade stalls.  A River Pageant will sail past The Historic Dockyard Chatham and Upnor Castle providing a unique opportunity for boat owners, visitors and river users to show off their wonderful vessels.  Water activities will take place in Basin 2 including dragon boat racing, rowing displays, fly boarding and jet ski displays. Live English and Dutch folk music, walkabout entertainment and clog dancing performances will run throughout the evening.
