The Festival of Steam and Transport is back! In its 16th year we have our favourites here again for the weekend… Steampunks, Funfair and our running trains! New for this year is the International Food & Drink Festival! With a variety of cuisines from around the globe you won’t leaving hungry!
More information to be revealed!
See below highlights from last year!
With the new additions of dodgems and swing boats there’s a plenty of fun to keep you entertained all day!
Ride on the Gavioli Horse Carousel, or if you can brave it the Masters of Preston Chair-O-Planes. Not forgetting the funfair favourite Ferris wheel and much much more! Come on down and see for yourselves all the family favourites.
The Steampunks are back! Due to popular demand an imaginative array of fashion and gadgets all inspired by 19th century industrial steam-powered machinery will be on display. Steampunk, for those of you unfamiliar, is a subgenre of science fiction based on an alternative history of the British Victorian 19th century, in a post-apocalyptic future where steam power has sustained mainstreamed usage.
Vintage vehicles will leave visitors in awe and nostalgic. Classic and vintage vehicles from hot rods, motorcycles/bikes, military, steam and many more, there is plenty to marvel at; some may even let you sit behind the wheel of these classic motors (please ask politely).
Bringing a community together through the shared admiration of these magnificent vehicles, in our celebration at The Dockyard.
All weekend the Dockyard’s streets will be filled with steam displays of some of the South East’s finest Steam Traction Engines and locomotives. Watch the ‘Overlord’ locomotive (one of the Royal Engineers Collections on site) thunder through the Dockyard streets.
Come see the engineers working in The Railway Workshop, used to maintain and house these magnificent steam and diesel locomotives by the ‘Dockyard Steam Society’ and don’t forget to speak to our expert ‘steamies’.
Immerse yourself in The Historic Dockyard’s galleries and attractions, including the new and awarding winning ‘Command of the Oceans’.
Follow John North and his grandson as they take you around our gallery Hearts of Oak and teach you the art of shipbuilding.
And if that’s not enough, the children’s indoor soft play and outdoor play areas gives little Dockyard explorers a chance to let off some steam of their own!
