CHAINS: The forging of a sonnet sequence

A Lecture by Patience Agbabi

Patience Agbabi FRSL was Poet-in-Residence at the Historic Dockyard in Chatham in 2010. This lecture will reveal how she welded contemporary and archive material into a polyvocal corona to celebrate the hard graft and fine craft of the original dockyard workers. Drafted at seven sites: the Commissioner’s House; the Church; the Ropery; the Museum; HMS Gannet; Wooden Walls and No.1 Smithery; the event will culminate with a reading of the entire sequence, each poem inextricably linked.

This lecture beings at 7pm and will be hosted at the Royal Dockyard Church at The Historic Dockyard Chatham.
