The first annual Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust’s Conference aims to bring together new and exciting research. Celebrating a shared heritage by bringing together the work of research groups across the region. It will also provide an open opportunity to share, discuss and debate new research.

Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust’s first annual conference: Hidden Secrets of Chatham Dockyard and Its Defences.

Call for Speakers

All researchers, especially local history groups and interested individuals are invited to submit original published and unpublished papers/research on the following topics (but not limited to):

  1. Chatham Historic Dockyard (including its buildings, ships that were built here and what they went on to do, the trades, the people and the wider role the Dockyard played in supporting the Royal Navy)
  2. Chatham Lines
  3. Fort Amherst
  4. Kitchener Barracks
  5. Old Gun Wharf
  6. Rochester Castle
  7. Brompton Barracks, Village and the Royal Engineers
  8. The River Medway
  9. Upnor Castle, Barracks and Ordnance Depot
  10. Growth and change of the Medway Towns
  11. The people who worked/lived in the area
  12. New information released/discovered in the last 10 years on Medway related activity.

Authors of selected topics will be invited to deliver a 10 minute presentation (dependent on demand). Please submit an abstract/outline of a presentation to Alexandra Curson at by the 29th October 2017.
