Your voyage of discovery starts here

... a visit to The Historic Dockyard Chatham is a guaranteed adventure.

Return to the ‘Age of Sail’ when the Dockyard built mighty ships that mastered the world’s oceans. Test your sea legs as you marvel at HMS Ocelota Cold War Submarineexplore HMS Cavalier, a Second World War Destroyer; walk the deck of HMS Gannet, our Victorian Sloop.  Watch our Master Ropemakers at work using centuries old techniques on in our Victorian Ropery.

Whilst we have reached Stage 4 of the Government’s COVID recovery plan and many rules have been relaxed, the threat of the virus remains high and we have a duty of care to keep all users of our historic estate safe. There are several safety measures that we have chosen to keep in place to help mitigate risk and ensure everyone has a safe but enjoyable visit to the Historic Dockyard. Please take a few moments to read our ‘KNOW BEFORE YOU GO’ information and our frequently asked questions.

Don’t forget to book your tickets and arrival time in advance.

Let your hearts set sail through the tides of history. A fantastic day out in Kent awaits.

Visitor Notice:  Our Hearts of Oak gallery will be closed to visitors on Friday 30th July for essential maintenance.  We apologise for any inconvenience.

We had a fabulous day. It was lovely to see everyone so cheerful and enthusiastic about the reopening.

Thank you for organising the wheelchair especially at such short notice, this has help enormously for our visit. I would also like to say how impressed we all were with the tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, very friendly and approachable. We have all commented about clean the Dockyard is, and how helpful your staff are onsite.

Please may I convey our appreciation of the excellent customer service given by all of the staff we encountered during our visit on Saturday 29th May; not only were they informed and attentive but we appreciated how they respectfully ensured covid regulations were observed. The site was looking very well cared for and we really enjoyed the exhibitions- particularly the Hidden Heroines exhibit which was very well curated and full of excellent stories demonstrating a real spectrum of experiences.
