The UK’s largest collection of historic lifeboats, which together have saved hundreds of lives off the coasts of the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
Formed in partnership with the RNLI Heritage Trust this remarkable gallery celebrates over two centuries of extraordinary courage, selfless heroism, and pioneering maritime innovation. Visitors can step back in time to explore how search and rescue technology has dramatically evolved over the last century, tracing the journey from early wooden craft to modern high-speed offshore vessels.

OUR COLLECTION
Our collection spans a fascinating array of historic craft, each with its own incredible story of survival at sea. Highlights include:
- An 1897 Pulling and Sailing Lifeboat: Discover the sheer physical power required by early Victorian crews, who relied solely on oars, canvas sails, and human resilience to brave treacherous ocean storms.
- The Familiar Arun Class: Get up close to the iconic, modern all-weather lifeboats that served as the dependable backbone of the RNLI fleet throughout the late 20th century.
- Blue Peter Inflatable Craft: Learn the fascinating story behind the legendary children’s television fundraising campaigns that launched rapid-response coastal inflatable vessels, revolutionising modern inshore rescues.
