We are delighted to invite our annual ticket holders to step inside The Commissioner’s House and Gardens and experience this remarkable building following its transformation.
For the first time, explore the newly restored rooms, uncover the stories hidden within its walls and see the incredible craftsmanship that has brought this 300-year hold Georgian home back to life.
Built in 1704 for Captain George St Lo, The Commissioner’s House was the official residence of the Dockyard Commissioner and is the oldest intact naval building in the country.
Following a £3.8m restoration, this extraordinary house has been carefully restored with exceptional attention to detail. Enjoy the newly revealed interiors, admire the new roof and elegant dormer windows, step inside the brand-new orangery and get closer to the magnificent ceiling painting from HMS Royal Sovereign than ever before.
During the restoration, the house also revealed some fascinating hidden treasures, including a 200-year-old Jack of Spades playing card discovered beneath the floorboards on the second floor. The card is now on display in the bar, alongside a special cocktail created in its honour.

Commissioner’s House Guided Tour is £6 per person. We recommend booking Afternoon Tea and the Commissioner’s House Guided Tour in advance. We can not guarantee availability on the day. |

| Times | The Commissioner’s House will be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm. The upper floors will close at 2.45pm. Afternoon Tea is served at 2pm. The Commissioner’s House guided tour will start at 3.30pm and last for approximately 1 hour. |
