Diwali at the Dockyard
22 Oct - 14 Nov 2025

Diwali at the Dockyard is a contemporary exhibition showcasing creative responses from members of the local Hindu community to one of the site’s lesser-known spaces, Commissioner’s Garden.
Part of a pioneering cross-cultural, intergenerational pilot project led by Medway-raised Community Artist-Educator Jay M. Patel, it aims to engage under-represented audiences with the Dockyard story. Senior community members visited Commissioner’s Garden and took part in process-based creative workshops designed by Jay, whose British-Indian roots shaped the project’s concept.
The resulting artworks explore themes of intangible cultural heritage, play and nature, celebrating Diwali in a way that connects the Dockyard’s history with the memories of Hindu families who once worked there.
