National Lottery Open Week: Dockyard Mateys Tour

13 Mar 2026

Dockyard Mateys Tour

FULLY BOOKED

Step back in time and discover the Historic Dockyard through the eyes of those who knew it best – FOR FREE.

Weโ€™re proud to be part of National Lottery Open Week 2026, a chance to celebrate the things National Lottery players help unlock across the UK.

On Friday 13, weโ€™re inviting players to discover the Historic Dockyard with our Dockyard Mateys. This relaxed, volunteer-led walking tour with two former Dockyard Mateys, David Lawrence and John Masters is a chance to really get under the skin of the Dockyard. The duo started their apprenticeships here in 1960 and 1970 respectively and worked at the dockyard until the 1980s. They now generously volunteer their time to help look after our historic site and share their unique stories.

With decades of experience, David and John bring the Dockyardโ€™s history to life in a way only they can.

The walking tour will take approximately 90 minutes.

National Lottery Open Week is all about shining a light on hidden gems, the people, places, and moments. We canโ€™t wait to welcome new visitors and say thank you to the players who make our important work possible.
