The Challenger Expedition: Exploring the Ocean’s Depths with Dr Erika Jones

Published to mark the 150th anniversary of the launch of the Challenger expedition, on 7 December 1872, The Challenger Expedition: Exploring the Ocean’s Depths tells the story of the ground-breaking voyage that transformed our understanding of the deep sea.

Join author and curator Dr Erika Jones as she explains the circumnavigation of HMS CHALLENGER and reveals the stories of the often-hidden work, technologies and international collaboration at the heart of this monumental nineteenth-century scientific endeavour, including significant contributions by Chatham’s Royal Navy Dockyard and the Royal Engineers School of Military Engineering.

This is part of a series of talks supporting our Monsters of the Deep exhibition. The talks are free to join and the restaurant will be open for drinks and light snacks.
