Home Educator Day – The Victorian Ropery, the Factory Act and Spinning Rooms

12 Sep 2025

Separately Ticketed

Tread the ¼ mile (402.3m) ropewalk with Louisa Good, one of our Ropery Spinning ladies, listening to her fascinating story. Find out what life was like in a Victorian factory and how the Factory Acts changed working conditions. Hand-picked apprentices will make a piece of rope on our scale model rope making machine.

Why not also pop in to meet our Master Ropemakers in the Hemp House and make your own skipping rope, so you can practice some Victorian Skipping games for yourself.

There are six Spinning a Yarn sessions running throughout the day, which are bookable in advance and skipping rope making will operate as a drop-in session in our Hemp House.

Spaces are £10.50 per adult and child (over 3). Children under 3 go free.
