INKling Home Educator Day
18 Oct 2024

This autumn, we are inviting our home-educating community to join us for a unique learning experience at The Historic Dockyard Chatham. With the installation of the Ralph STEADman INKling exhibition, we are hosting a Home Educator Day, which provides an opportunity to view the exhibition and use Steadman’s work as inspiration for home learning projects, as well as the chance to create your own Steadman-inspired artwork in the form of a ‘splat character’.
Drop in sessions will be held in No. 1 Smithery at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, with a maximum of 30 people per session.
Alternatively, bring your sketch pad or camera along for the day and be inspired by our many beautiful buildings, surroundings or the many examples of art across our site.
Children and families will have the opportunity to:
- Create a unique piece of artwork inspired by the work of Ralph Steadman. Children will be encouraged to invent and design a ‘splat character’ much like Steadman’s illustrations and lifelong creative practice.
- Have the opportunity to download our Discoverers Art Award booklet and complete this on-line, to achieve a nationally recognised certificate, at no additional cost. Details will be available when you visit.
Ticket prices are £8 for adults and £8 for children.
Inktober challenge
The Inkling Home Educators Day will hopefully encourage you to also take part the Inktober Challenge, a global movement to promote positive drawing habits through the use of ink or pencil. To take part, create one small, simple sketch each day, or every other day, or weekly, and upload your work on social media with #inktober attached to it. There are key words to inspire your work, published on the internet towards the beginning of the month.
Kent Reliance support for Arts Education for Children
We are grateful to Kent Reliance for their sponsorship of the INKling Home Educators Day. The creative arts fuel innovation and imagination, developing lifelong skills of perception, understanding, productivity and wellbeing. Art, music, drama, design and dance bring together young people of all backgrounds, to find ways to express themselves and gain greater understanding of who they are, and where they belong in the world. The creative arts offer such a wealth of immeasurable benefits and personal satisfaction to the individual, their families and communities.
