In conversation with … Ceri Levy
03 Oct 2024

In the next installation of our evening talks programme, filmmaker and writer, Ceri Levy will share the story of how he and artist, Ralph Steadman became great friends through the creation of “The Gonzovation Trilogy.”
“We Must Talk”
It all started with one email from Ceri asking Ralph for a single piece of art depicting an extinct bird species. This would be for a group show highlighting the dangers of extinction that today threatens so many of the world’s birds.
Ceri waited for a reply and when finally, two months later it dropped in his inbox, the message stated, “I don’t know what you want from me, but I’m intrigued! We must talk.” Then Ceri’s phone rang, and it was Ralph, and they have been talking ever since. And out of their conversations grew The Gonzovation Trilogy, a series of books documenting extinct and near extinct birds as well as other animals.
Ceri will talk about working with Ralph in creating these books and the responsibility we all feel for the world around us. He will share tales from the Steadman studio and how so many of the pieces came into being including the secrets of the dirty water animals and how some of the invented boids and critters became reality.
Who doesn’t want to know who, and what, a Needless Smut is? And just what is a gonzovationist? Could you be one?
Join in the gonzovation conversation and discover a whole new way of viewing the natural world around us and let Ceri be your guide to the world of gonzovation.
The evening will be compered by Sadie Williams, Director of the Ralph Steadman Art Collection and Curator of INKling.
There will be a question and answer session following Ceri’s talk.
