AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Step back in time and experience the sights, sounds and smells of steam power during our brand new Steam on the Square: Dockyard in Motion event this August Bank Holiday Weekend. From working locomotives to historic vehicles and hands-on activities, this is a chance to explore real steam and military machines up close.

Steam on the Square brings real engineering, working machines and hands-on discovery together in one packed bank holiday weekend. All included with your standard Dockyard entry ticket.

What’s Happening

Driver for a Tenner

Experience the thrill of the rails with “Driver for a Tenner” – your chance to step onto the footplate, feel the heat of the firebox, and learn the basics of driving a steam engine under the guidance of our expert crew.

*over 18s only; additional fee applies.

Steam Crane

Hook-a-Duck

A Dockyard favourite returns. Using signal flags, help guide the team to hook ducks using a real working steam crane. Classic fairground fun with a big mechanical twist.

Overlord - Railway Operating Days

Footplate Access

Climb aboard ‘Overlord’, our diesel locomotive, and get a rare view from the driver’s side. Meet the team and hear about our restoration works.
