Join photographer Benjamin Ross for a guided photography walk through the Historic Dockyard Chatham—one of Kent’s most visually striking heritage locations.

Participants will explore composition, storytelling, observation, and documentary-style image-making whilst engaging with light/gentle walking through historic architecture, industrial textures, and waterside environments.

The walk encourages people to slow down, notice details, and build confidence in photographing public spaces through a relaxed and community-focused environment.

Participants are welcome to bring DSLR cameras or mirrorless cameras or simply use their mobile phones.

No previous photography experience is required.

Part of Medway and Kent Lens’ wider commitment to accessible creativity and public engagement, this event aims to encourage people to reconnect with local heritage through photography and shared creative exploration.

The Photo Panellists (Live Talk)

Our Photography Panel Live Talk is located in the Namur Room of the Mess Deck restaurant.

This live panel discussion brings together photographers from different creative backgrounds to discuss visual storytelling, identity, artistic practice, and the realities of working creatively within photography today. Hosted at the Historic Dockyard Chatham, the event creates space for honest conversation around process, visibility, inspiration, and sustaining a creative practice.

Audience members will have the opportunity to hear directly from practising photographers while also engaging in audience Q&A. The panel is intentionally designed to feel approachable rather than overly formal, making it particularly valuable for students, emerging creatives, and local photographers who may not often have access to artist-led discussions within Medway and Kent.
