40 Years: In The Making (touring exhibition)

25 Mar - 03 Nov 2024

Touring Exhibition

On 30 March 1984, Chatham Dockyard closed and Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust was formed.

This exhibition highlights key events over the last 40 years including the run down to the closure and formation of Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust. It includes key milestones like the re-opening of the site as a visitor attraction, the arrival of the ‘Three Historic Ships’, discovery of the NAMUR timbers, and preservation of key historic buildings through commercial re-use.

We are using this year to commemorate the closure and the devastating impact it had on the local community, celebrate the preservation of the 80-acre historic site including key achievements during this period, and re-engage audiences through an exciting programme of events. Giving everyone the opportunity to be part of our story now and in the future.
