The Historic Dockyard Chatham spans 80 acres, has over 100 buildings and structures dating from the Georgian and Victorian periods to the present day, thus making it suitable for any period location over the past 200 years. It provides the ideal location for your next shoot, be it a feature film, TV series, game show, pop promo or photo shoot. From a crew of two on a fashion shoot for a few hours to a crew of two hundred on a blockbuster film for several weeks, The Historic Dockyard Chatham not only provides the ideal film friendly location, but also has the space to accommodate your requirements.
Over the years, The Historic Dockyard Chatham has built an enviable reputation of being a location that delivers, and one that goes some small way to easing the stress of filming on location. Our “can-do” approach and friendly staff has seen location mangers and production companies return time after time and we are very grateful for the repeat business these people bring us. Our longest standing client has just finished shooting their sixth consecutive year with us.
Our commitment to filming goes beyond just providing a location. We work with you to solve issues and to make sure you achieve what you want to shoot. We understand that it’s often the small things that matter – like a separate power supply to plug the camera truck into or a fresh water tap for the caterers.
A “film friendly” location as designated by the Kent Film Office with a wide variety of locations, from residential to commercial to industrial – all on one site.
Private & discreet site with good control of access within a walled and gated environment. With no road closure problems – being a privately run estate there are no further permissions needed.
Plenty of onsite parking – not just for Unit Base but also cast and crew and SA parking requirements – no need to source separate Base and parking facilities once you have chosen your location.
Located close to London – just 50 mins by road from central London, as well as being served by high speed trains from St. Pancras.
Nearby accommodation is also available – business hotel on site and several other hotels within a short drive.
Good security managed in-house 24/7 with CCTV – and we are happy to work with your chosen security company to control access.
We work in conjunction with a local group who can supply all your SA requirements and have extensive experience in both period and modern day productions.
Our Steam Railway has a number of working Steam Tank engines and diesel locomotives that can be hired together with a crew who are used to working with film companies.
We welcome film crews and endeavour to meet all your requirements – with Green Rooms and crowd holding areas also available. Rooms available for hire for production meetings etc. (with free Wi-Fi).
We also work closely with Medway Council, Kent Film Office and local companies to assist you in finding additional locations in the area to suit your needs.

Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust welcomes the news that museums and visitor attractions are able to reopen to visitors from 4 July.
We are actively planning to welcome visitors back to the Dockyard as soon as we are safely able to do so but this will be some time after 4 July.
We will make a further announcement to confirm the exact date as soon as we can.
In the meantime, much of Dockyard life has never stopped. Master Ropemakers has started operating again and we are taking forward bookings for filming, group travel and hospitality, including weddings. Call the Midwife Official Location Tours will resume shortly.
We would like to thank all our visitors for their understanding during this challenging period.
