Built in 1704 for Captain George St. Lo, this grand mansion is the oldest intact naval building in Great Britain. His house stands at the centre of the site and today provides impressive spaces for private hire which can be completely tailored for your event. Commissioner’s House also has a spacious walled garden, with an excellent view of Rochester, and a private bar.
Legend suggests that Oliver Cromwell watched from Commissioner’s Garden while Rochester surrendered to his forces.

18th century warship HMS Namur was a 90-gun second rate ship of the line built at Chatham. She fought in many battles and her honours even surpass those of Nelson’s famous HMS Victory.
The timbers from Namur were discovered beneath the floor of the Wheelrights’ Shop in 1995. Namur’s story, along with her restored timbers, form the centrepiece of our Command of the Oceans gallery – our meeting room, located above the gallery, has been named in her honour.
Adjacent to our main visitors’ entrance and Mess Deck restaurant, the Namur room is completely private space and available for room hire only.
