Alternative way to spend your Valentine’s weekend

Whether you’re looking for weekend plans with your other half or even wanting to escape the love, take a read on to see why visiting The Dockyard should top of your list for an alternative Valentines weekend…

It’s not every day that you can be partners in crime and discover the mystery of the timbers of the Namur… the 90-gun ship was found beneath five layers of floor in the old Wheelwrights Shop in 1995. Learn about the era of the Age of Sail and be moved by the story of the ‘ship beneath the floor’. Turn detective and ask the intriguing question – why are the timbers buried here?
Included in your entry ticket are 2 guided tours: HM Submarine Ocelot and The Victorian Ropery. Watch our master craftsmen at work, keeping alive the ancient art of rope making and follow your Victorian guide to find out about the history of families working at The Dockyard. Why not purchase a love knot from our ropery giftshop as a keepsake from your day?

And lastly, it’s not all ships and submarines. Explore The Commissioner’s Garden – the grounds belonging to The Commissioner’s House, Britain’s oldest naval building. The elegant Georgian-style house has a hidden secret garden waiting to be explored. You can wander through the gardens and spot the early signs of spring with the snowdrops and daffodils.

After all that exploring on our 80-acre site, treat your loved one to one of our signature dishes in the Mess Deck Restaurant. Order a Ploughman’s to share with a glass of bubbles or a delicious cream tea treat for 2. If you’re continuing with Veganuary then order our hearty new vegan burger or if you need to warm up, order the delicious vegan curry.
Tickets to the Dockyard are valid for one year and include entry to our two 2020 temporary exhibitions – Tattoo: British Tattoo Art Revealed and Diving Deep: HMS Invincible 1744 – allowing you and your partner to continue with ‘date days’ throughout the year.
The Dockyard holds a special place in many people’s hearts, give it a special place in yours this Valentine’s Day…
