Family days out in Kent
Looking for activities to do with the family this May Half Term? Here at The Dockyard we’re covering all things… Pirates!!
We are delighted to announce that as from Saturday 25th May, our latest temporary exhibition: A Pirate’s Life For Me – which has come straight from London’s V&A Museum of Childhood, will be open to visitors!

This exhibition is based in No.1 Smithery, on museum square, in the heart of The Dockyard. Explore at your own leisure as you enter the different ‘zones’ of the exhibition. Discover a variety of Pirate collections exploring the history and impact of Pirates in children’s culture through displays, including: toys, books, costumes, illustrations, games and photographs. Unlike many exhibitions, there’s no need to be quiet! With clips from pirate shows being filmed, a dressing up area, treasure map puzzles and the giant wooden pirate ship to jump on-board… children can make as much noise as they want! It’s not all for the kids… adult’s will feel nostalgic, as they recognise popular pirate children toys and get involved with the hands on activities too! And best of all, this is all included in your annual tickets!

But that’s not all…
Joining the pirate theme for this month will be our May Half Term activities! Activities are aimed at 3-5-year olds and 5-10-year olds, where young buccaneers will begin their Pirate journey by creating their very own Pirate compass. This compass will reveal their five Pirate missions to complete, in order to meet the Captain to receive their reward! Activities include flag making, wanted posters, paper ships and more! We recognise that our site is very BIG so there’s no need to rush and do it all in one day, simply come back another time to complete the missions! These activities are at no extra cost, and all included in your annual tickets.
