Movember at the Dockyard: Growing Mos, Growing Awareness

This November, five of our colleagues, Rob Ansell, Pete Celi-Stamp, Stephen Billington, Matt Sanderson, and Mat Goldsmith, are taking part in Movember, growing moustaches to raise awareness for men’s health.
Why Movember Matters
Movember is a global movement dedicated to changing the face of men’s health, funding programs for mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Since 2003, it has supported over 1,250 projects worldwide, helping men access early detection, treatment, and support.
Men’s mental health is critical:
- Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50.
- 1 in 8 men will experience depression.
By talking openly and breaking the stigma, we can save lives.
Supporting CALM
Alongside Movember, we’re backing CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), a UK charity preventing suicide and offering free, confidential support.
- ·Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 in the UK.
- ·75% of all suicides are men.
- CALM runs a 7-day-a-week helpline and webchat, providing life-saving emotional support.
- ·Every day in the UK, 18 people die by suicide.
CALM’s mission is simple: help people end their misery, not their lives. Visit www.thecalmzone.net or call 0800 58 58 58 for support.
“I fundraise for CALM, and will be running a Half Marathon in London in April, and a full Marathon at Bewl Water in September 2026. My Just Giving page is https://www.justgiving.com/page/peter-calm” — Pete Celi-Stamp
“It’s strange that we choose a manly moustache to show our support for our fellow men. Some may think that having macho facial hair is at odds with a month that promotes the softer skills of talking to, empathising with and supporting our male friends and colleagues. I’ve had several people ask: ‘Are you doing Movember?’ which is always a great way to start the conversation. It’s been great having several members of the Trust ‘Growing a Mo’ to support such an important message.” – Stephen Billington
“Men’s mental health shouldn’t be hidden… unlike the top half of my lip, which currently looks like it’s smuggling a small ferret. I’ve had fist bumps, random chats with complete strangers, and more laughs than I expected. But honestly, the best part has been seeing how a silly moustache can open the door to real conversations.” – Rob Ansell
