The Dockyard are proud to be home to the UK’s largest collection of RNLI Lifeboats!
The RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) save lives at sea with around 22 people aided a day by lifeboat crews!
You won’t just see the collection of lifeboats here, but you will learn about many dangerous missions they have encountered.
One such lifeboat is the St Cybi and the Moelfre lifeboat which were launched in hurricane force winds to the rescue of the crew of the Nafsiporos – a Greek ship, which had broken down off the North Wales coast. The St Cybi was badly damaged trying to get alongside when the ship’s own lifeboat got loose and crashed onto the lifeboat’s deck. Eventually 15 men were taken off to safety. Following the rescue, two RNLI Gold Medals were awarded.
You’ll also get the chance to “have a go” on board a lifeboat too! Don’t forget to share with us your photos!
