Volunteers’ Week: Long Service Recognition

Volunteers’ Week: Long Service Recognition

This Volunteers’ Week, we celebrated the long service of some of our dedicated volunteers with a very special Coffee Morning.

We are lucky to have so many highly dedicated volunteers at The Historic Dockyard Chatham and we wanted to celebrate them. During a fun-filled coffee morning, we handed out awards celebrating five years through to 30 years of service.

We want to thank all our volunteers for their dedication and the time they continue to give to the Historic Dockyard.

Two of our longest-serving volunteers, David and Frank, both started volunteering at the Dockyard in 1994.

RNLI Volunteer – David

Dave is an RNLI volunteer who has volunteered in our lifeboat gallery since its opening in 1994. The RNLI volunteer team at the Historic Dockyard look after the largest collection of historic lifeboats in the UK.

Interestingly, Dave also escorted our warship, HMS CAVALIER, to its current home in No.2 dock. Dave was called to help with getting CAVALIER into the Dock in 1998, because of his previous Merchant Navy career and expertise.

Dave can be seen in the photo below in the stripey t-shirt on the bow of CAVALIER guiding her in.

Thank you for your 31 years of service, Dave. We appreciate everything you do for the Dockyard and the Lifeboat Collection.

Voluntary Service – Frank

Frank is from our Chatham Dockyard Voluntary Service (CDVS), and first started volunteering at the Dockyard in 1994.

Frank is a great mentor to many of our volunteers, sharing his knowledge and expertise across various teams.

His team, the CDVS, look after and maintain our vintage vehicles onsite including the Morris Minor that is now the starting point for the Call the Midwife Official Location Tour, but Frank has also been known to lend out his skills to the railway team and even helped with some of our Ropery bikes.

Thank you, Frank for all you do at the Dockyard, and for your 31 years of service.
