Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust Introduces Yuck Yard: A Gut-Wrenching Family Event
Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust is introducing a brand-new event that promises gut-wrenching tales and gruesome fun for all the family. Yuck Yard runs throughout the Kent and Medway half-term dates, from 19 October to 3 November 2024.
Naval history is filled with truly revolting tales, so brace yourself for sickening stories of historic diseases and the downright disgusting cures tested through the ages. Prepare for a hands-on journey through the darkest, most stomach-churning aspects of Dockyard history – guaranteed to make your skin crawl!
Battle of the Bilge (23 – 31 October 2024)
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Widow Wink, the queen of queasy cures! At her apothecary table, she brews potions from sour-smelling herbs and all sorts of natural nasties. Fancy a leech or two? She’s got just the trick to turn stomachs!
Families will also be able to seek out Assistant Surgeon George Bass, who is at the cutting edge of seafaring surgery—literally! From yanking out rotten teeth to sawing off gangrenous limbs and patching up festering gunshot wounds, he’s got just the tool for every ailment.
The characters will compete in a live-action Battle of the Bilge as they duel for the Yuck Yard Cup, where audiences will discover the best ways to treat those terrible illnesses.
The Ratcatcher’s Trail (daily)
Families can sniff out the rats and revolting foodie facts as they skulk around the Dockyard. The Ratcatcher’s Trail will uncover gross answers and provide interesting tales of gruesome grub!
Gallery of Goo (daily)
Visitors can enter the explosion zone and fire vials of revolting slime onto the monstrous Gallery of Goo. They can create a splat-tacular disaster-piece and take home their own gloriously gruesome design.
