Set within an impressive 80-acre historic site, the Dockyard provides a rich, authentic and varied environment for exploration, perfect for bringing learning to life through hands-on discovery and real-world history.
Packed with magnificent historic buildings, iconic ships to climb aboard, and galleries filled with fascinating artefacts and stories, every visit sparks curiosity and imagination.
Home Educators can choose to visit in a number of ways:

- Fully guided days for groups of 15 or more (+ optional additional workshops)

The Historic Dockyard Chatham is a remarkable place for Home Educators – a site where history comes to life through exploration and discovery. Step into a complete dockyard from the Age of Sail and beyond, with unrivalled access to the ships that shaped the world and the stories of the people who built them. It’s a place of curiosity and creativity, where learning happens through fun, fascination and adventure.
Choose your perfect visit…
£9 per visitor
Self-directed visits
Guide yourselves across Historic Dockyard, visiting the galleries or ships of your choice. Maps can be picked up on arrival.
£13 per visitor (Groups of 15 or more)
Fully guided days
A guide can be booked for your whole day, providing ropery and submarine tours, along with tours of our galleries and ships.
Additional Workshops £75 per session – Why not add one of our Learning Activities sessions to your guided day? Details can be found on the Learning web pages or talk to one of the team when booking.
