The family favourite Easter event is back! From steam trains, to our free funfair, to food stalls to steam punks and live music! – It’s an event not to be missed!

New for this year….We are working in partnership with BBC Radio Kent! The Dockyard will be filled with live music from artists featured on BBC Radio Kent. Take a look at who will be performing at the weekend! We also have new entertainment this year! …Morris Dancers, The DoDo Rider, Phileas Fogg, Doc.Yard performances and the Rock Choir return- but this year are even bigger!

 

Live Music!

Working in partnership with BBC Radio Kent

This year The Dockyard will be filled with live music from artists featured on BBC Radio Kent. Take a look at who will be performing at the weekend!

Performances will be at the Helipad stage, with show times available on our FREE leaflet when you come onto site.

Sam Winston

Sam is a folk rock/alt pop artist from London. He writes and produces in a studio that he built. He is a multi-instrumentalist and has studied the piano since he was 6. Sam has played festivals like Folk Dock, gigging in venues like The Tate Liverpool and The Albert Dock….(cont)

Jayne Snow

Jayne Snow is professional singer/songwriter who has over 10 years experience gigging and performing live.

Jayne is the ‘National Grand Finalist’ of the ‘Open Mic Uk Competition’ where she performed at The NEC, Birmingham to labels such as Sony, Universal and Warner.

Aid Lewis

Aid Lewis is singer, songwriter, performer and lover of life. Through his music he tells stories of life, love, experience and society.His latest offering and debut album touches on the joys of love and passion, heartache, & Worlds current state.

James Hodder

London based troubadour who fuses Folk and Americana influences with bittersweet lyrics and storytelling on his debut album ‘In The Beginning’

Mike Mayfield

Renowned in the music industry as an incredible vocalist and guitarist, Mike has played in front of huge crowds alongside artists such as Emeli Sandé, Jessie J and Rita Ora.

Rock Choir!

Rock choir are back again this year…but this year, are even bigger! With 4 local Rock Choir groups – Rainham, Kings Hill, Rochester & Gravesend, the groups will be performing at the Courtyard stage three times during the day. Performance times will be printed on our FREE leaflet available at the event.

Please note that Rock Choir are performing on the Monday only

The Dockyard comes alive with our street entertainers. Have your camera at the ready with our some new acts for 2019!

The Dodo Rider

Lookout for the Dodo bird over the weekend! Legendary equestrian rider Lillian May Stanhope……, fresh from a Royal Command performance at Sandringham for Queen Victoria herself, wows audiences with her rare appearance of  Raphus Cucullatous, the last known living specimen of the Dodo bird.

Phileas Fogg: Day 79

Join Phileas Fogg and his French valet Passepartout as they attempt to circumnavigate the world in just 80 days. The year is 1872 and it’s day 79 of the journey. Our intrepid adventurers are just hours away from crossing the finish line, if they can just coerce their hot air balloons to go in the right direction they stand to win a grand prize. Supported by Just So Festival, SpareParts and Arts Council England

The Giant Balloon Show

The GIANT BALLOON SHOW will have the audiences in stitches and in awe simultaneously. Expect feverous balloon sculptures, high energy comic performance and of course the all important giant balloon! A 45min show for all ages, with lots of audience interaction!

Morris Dancers!

Come and watch a local group of Morris Dancers perform their Spring routine! Accompanied by folk music, you’ll be wanting to give it a go! Performing on the Sunday only at the Courtyard Stage.

Doc.Yard performance

If you missed Doc.Yard’s Secret Lab during the Easter holidays, then don’t panic! Doc will be performing at the Courtyard Stage for a 30 minute show at 10.30am & 2pm. Please note that Doc.Yard will be performing on the Monday only. 

Punch & Judy

Punch & Judy are back and are performing by the Ropery area. Little ones can take a seat on our little toadstool cushions and watch a performance of the wonderful duo! Please note that Punch & Judy are performing on the Sunday only . 

Newfoundland Dogs

The rescue dogs return this year, located outside Commissioners House on the lawn  – come and say hello and find out wonderful facts about this wonderful breed!

Face painting

Free face painting will be happening on the day located on museum square! Choose from a variety of designs and don’t forget to upload your photos to share with us on social media!

The mobile Forge

Come and watch sparks fly as a blacksmith creates a variety of products over the weekend!

Steam

Here at The Historic Dockyard Chatham, we have just under 1 mile of line to operate demonstration trains. Run by our dedicated team of volunteers, it’s the perfect photo opportunity and to have the chance to get up close to our very own steam trains!

Our trains will run up and down the site throughout the weekend.

Please note that our trains are purely demonstration and we do not carry passengers.

 

Classic Cars

As you wander, marvel through years of vintage vehicles; from hot rods, motorcycles/bikes, military, steam, kit cars and many more. They give the Dockyard a nostalgic feeling for you to enjoy! Some owners may even let you sit behind the wheel of these classic motors

Motion Picture Motors are returning too, with cars from your favourite films!

Steampunks

Great Kentspectations society are back for another year of Victoriana Science Fiction fun and madness!

Steampunk, for those of you unfamiliar, is a subgenre of science-fiction, based on an alternative history of the Victoria era, in a post-apocalyptic future, where steam power still rules! – Great Kentspectations gives us all a little insight to this from the wonderful building of 3Slip.

Stalls

From clothes, hats, accessories, trinkets, small furnishings, gin, you name it chances are you will find it with one of the Steampunk stall holders,. These include trends from many Gothic, mystical and quirky trading stalls who will be selling their wares over both floors of 3 Slip. There will also be artists, authors and inventors displaying some of their amazing work for you to enjoy plus a chance to meet the makers in person

Entertainment

Joins the Steampunk Stage for a selection of spectacular music, bizarre games suitable for all the family and a chance to learn more about the sub culture with the Meet the Steampunks talk. Plenty of seating so all can watch and listen to the weekends entertainment in comfort and maybe join in for a bit of a dance.

Vintage Tea Rooms

The fabulous Vintage Pop – Up Tearooms are back- a perfect place to rest your feet and absorb the Steampunk surroundings whilst enjoying the perfect cuppa and a slice of homemade cake. Steampunks live off Tea and Cake so you will find a lot of costumed characters here!

Meet the Steampunks!

If you are interested in starting your own Steampunk outfits it’s the perfect place to ask questions and find inspiration, Steampunks are friendly (if not a little mad) people so are always happy to have a chat and answer questions. There will be lovely Great Kentspectations Team members stationed at the main entrance display so if you want to find out more head there and they will be more than happy to help!

From hot sausage rolls to tasty sweet treats to our classic fish & chips in our Mess Deck restaurant. At this event, you won’t be going hungry! With plenty of food stalls to discover around our site, there’s choices for the whole family!

Take a seat in our main restaurant where our event menu will be up for grabs! From our delicious fish and chips takeaway shop, Traditional pie and mash, salads, cakes and cream teas

Wagon Stop

Located in the middle of the site, it’s the perfect location to rest your legs as you explore the festival! From Kentish hot pies and sausage rolls, to delicious homemade and cakes and a variety of hot drinks

Stalls

A variety of food stalls will be at this years Festival from – a Taste of Thailand, to German sausages, to coffee and cakes to a brewery stand and the Crusty Pie Company!
