With over 400 years of history, The Dockyard provides the perfect backdrop to capture striking photographs.
Our new workshop on Sunday 19 April provides an exclusive, first-time, opportunity to go behind the scenes on our Historic Warships on a special guided portraiture photography experience. Led by experienced local photographer Louise Hubbard, you’ll learn how to capture the essence of the ships with models dressed in sea fayre costume.
All levels of experience and knowledge of photography are welcomed and so is any type of camera – be it a top of the range DSLR or a phone.
Please note this workshop is for over 18s only and some of the locations are only accessible by stairs.
Spaces are limited and we advise early booking to avoid disappointment.
The workshop will run from 10am to 3pm. Participants will get to explore various locations, some of which are not normally accessible to the public.
Lunch is included, as well as a Dockyard day ticket to allow you to explore further after the workshop.
Explore our Historic Warships HMS Gannet (a Victorian Sloop 1878) and HMS Cavalier (the last surviving Second World War Destroyer). You’ll get the chance to climb on board and photograph a costumed model in situ.
Please note locations are subject to change on the day and some locations are weather dependent.
Born in Gillingham and raised in Allhallows, Louise has lived in the Medway Towns all her life. Her interest in photography goes back to her childhood when she got her first camera at the age of 8. It was a very basic point and click automatic with cartridge film. She still has the square black & white photographs taken with it, capturing happy memories of her childhood.
Attending photographic workshops helped her to understand the key elements of photography. Composition, lighting and depth of field, whilst having fun at the same time. They helped her to build up a strong network with other photographers; many of whom have inspired and helped her to elevate her own photography to a standard she never thought would be achievable.
She now would love to pass on her own knowledge & help others who share her passion for taking a picture. In 2019 she created her own photography company, Louise E Hubbard Photography, running workshops and 1 to 1 tuition sessions. She is very honoured to have the opportunity to work alongside Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust to produce these fantastic photographic experience days.
